Departmen t Operations Status Non-Exempt Supervisor’s Title Area Manager Who we are We have been building, operating, and maintaining water and wastewater utility infrastructure for many years.
Our team has an opportunity for a Operations Apprentice (Part-Time) in Middlesboro, KY .
The position allows students enrolled in a high school work study program or college internship to shadow licensed operators in a structured environment with a primary focus on learning about the about the career opportunities that exist within the Water industry, while at the same time providing them with school credit.
In addition to shadowing staff on a variety of tasks, students participating in the apprentice program may perform a range of non-skilled tasks such as data entry and some routine maintenance functions.
What you'll do Essential Functions Participates in the observation and/or job shadowing of a licensed Operator as they perform of the following responsibilities for educational purposes: Operation and maintenance of water and/or wastewater treatment equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Complete various water and/or wastewater treatment processes in line with Company guidelines and governmental controls.
Prepare reports and maintain logs on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other record keeping requirements per Company policies and state requirements.
Testing, maintenance and installation of water meters.
Response to customer inquiries regarding meter reading, billing, and other customer service related matters.
Performance of the following tasks as needed: Maintains grounds in clean and orderly manner.
Cleaning and maintenance of treatment plant, pumping stations and wells; prepare and paid equipment, walls and floors.
Complete data entry or technology-based work on an ad hoc basis.
Additional Responsibilities Follow established safety policies and procedures to ensure safe work environment.
Remove trash and debris from grounds.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring Experience and Education Must be a full-time Junior or Senior in High School, participating in a work study program or a college student looking for summer internship Certifications/Licenses Must maintain a valid driver's license Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Ability to work in different weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to frequently perform moderate to heavy physical demands, including lifting (75 lbs.
), walking (10+ miles daily), climbing and mechanical repair.
Ability to work in all weather conditions: rain, snow, extreme heat and cold, etc; may encounter various potential hazards.
Familiarity with computer applications MS Word, Excel and utilizing tablet and mobile device; ability to learn internal software programs .
Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Please note: This is a part-time work study position.
Operations Apprentice will be scheduled up to 20 hours weekly.
